Why would a patient that is happy and healthy on day one suddenly be coughing, or aching, or limping, or vomiting the next day? Clearly there are thousands of causes: genetic predisposition, exposure to toxins, infectious agents. But were those factors not present yesterday? Even if there was exposure to a new bacteria or virus, say in a kennel, why do not all the pets exposed to it get sick?
We believe that besides treating the obvious visible symptoms with the most effective but mildest medicine available, we need to dig a little deeper and find out which predisposing causes made our particular patient more susceptible.
Predisposing conditions like genetic traits we can do nothing about. But most illness is caused by some process of oxidation or degeneration.
The same underlying process produces very different diseases depending on which cells it reaches.
When degeneration appears in the immune system, or mineral deficiencies and micro toxicities are present, we get allergies and hyper immune reactions.
Damage in thyroid or pancreas cells produces hypothyroidism, diabetes mellitus or diabetes insipidus.
Damage in the kidney cells produces chronic kidney failure. There are endless more examples.
Your pet needs appropriate modern medical technique to get this under control, and that means treating the symptoms. But we think it is malpractice not to also address the underlying causative factors and put a preventative program in place, so it does not recur.
Three levels
Healthy pets should start on the first program, to prevent oxidative and degenerative damage before it occurs. If there is already damage and symptoms are present, we will suggest one of the other two to mitigate it and get back to complete health.
For pets who are well. Keeps them that way, and heads off the oxidative damage that creates disease later.
For pets where damage has already begun. Built to slow it, and where possible reverse some of it.
For pets with allergies, hyper immune reactions or a compromised immune system.
The Healthy Dog Program
We assume you are already handling routine veterinary needs like the critical twice yearly physical examinations, vaccinations and parasite control. Do not miss those. We can only prevent disease before it occurs. After is often too late.
But how does that protect against arthritis, kidney failure, liver disease, pancreatitis or allergies later on? Typically pet owners are left out there with no advice at all on how to prevent future disease.
